Look at this picture. At first glance, it looks like a very sweet family photo, right? Megastar Amitabh Bachchan posing regally with his family, including Jaya Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Aaradhya Bachchan, Shweta Bachchan, Agastya Nanda and Navya Nanda for a happy Diwali picture. But, did you notice the backdrop? Do you see the bull painting? Many did not, some did and thought nothing of it. A few even made fun of the painting by linking it to Anil Kapoor’s reel character Majnu Bhai’s funny paintings from the film ‘Welcome’. However, some were really intrigued by it, by the sheer beauty and power the bull denotes and so they dug a little deeper. After some searching, now reports suggest that the majestic painting that adorns Big B’s majestic house is no ordinary painting. It reports are to be believed, it is in fact a masterpiece worth crores. Yes, you heard us right. The painting is reportedly by Manjit Bawa (1941–2008) born in Dhuri, Punjab. Reports suggest that he is known for creating masterpieces seeking inspiration from Indian mythology and Sufi philosophy. His subjects are said to have included figures of the deities Kali and Shiva, animals, nature, flute motifs, and the idea of co-existence between man and animal. If reports are anything to go by, he is said to be the first artist to break out of the dominant grays and browns and opt for customary palette of traditional Indian colors, such as red, pink, and violet. His work is reportedly sold all around the world by popular auction houses for anything between Rs 3-4 crores. Meanwhile, coming back to the Bachchans, every year on Diwali, they host a huge get-together which sees all the who’s who of Bollywood and the country marking their presence. Young, old, millennial celebrities flock to attend their party. However, since the COVID-19 pandemic happened, Diwali celebrations at Jalsa have become a private affair, nonetheless, equally memorable, judging by the glimpses we get to see.
