Guwahati: A 50-year-old man has been allegedly stabbed to death by his son following a dispute over a bidi in lower Assam’s Barpeta district. Police arrested the accused Samsul Hoque (30), who was produced before a local court in Barpeta and sent to judicial custody.
The incident took place at Alipur village under the jurisdiction of Kalgachia police station in the district on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Lalmiya.
Police said the accused had asked for a bidi from his father and got one. However, a heated argument broke out when Samsul asked for a second one. “The argument soon turned into a fight and Samsul attacked his father with a khukri (a sharp weapon),” said a police officer of Kalgachia police station. The officer added, “During preliminary probe, the accused has confessed that he had committed the crime. The murder took place over a bidi.” TNN
