Guwahati: The ruling BJP in Assam has collected over Rs 10 crore during its 45-day donation campaign — Sahyog Nidhi Abhiyan — from over 40 lakh party workers and well-wishers, sources said. The drive began on January 1 and concluded on February 15.
The campaign was launched by the BJP seeking willful donation from party workers and well-wishers across the state. The initiative was taken to raise party funds and thereby strengthen its finances.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, while announcing the campaign in December last year, had urged party workers to redouble their efforts in strengthening the BJP. Addressing an organisational meeting of the BJP in December here, the CM had said that the party needs to set up its own offices in every constituency in the state and for that it needs to be self-sufficient in terms of finance. The CM had added that the initiative would not only strengthen the party’s finances but would also yield results for the BJP in the ensuing municipal elections slated in February next year.
