Hubballi: Under ‘One Station One Product Scheme’, a stall of Gadag-Betageri and Ilkal saris has been set up at SSS Hubballi Railway station. The stall, which was inaugurated by an elderly passenger on Saturday, will function for 15 days from April 23.
Arvind Malkhede, Hubballi divisional railway manager, said the One Station One Product Scheme is novel initiative announced in the Union Budget in a bid to promote local artisans, products, and industries.
“It aims at promoting local products by making each railway station a promotional and sales hub. It encourages local craftsmen and artisans to market their products more effectively. The scheme will present unique regional products to a large number of people, especially travellers passing through railway stations,” he said, adding: “Under the scheme, a stall of Sandur Lambani embroidery products was launched at the Hubballi station for a period of 15 days from April 8. The Betageri and Ilkal sari stall, set up near the entrance of the station, is expected to attract even the general public.”
The sari stall has been set up by Gadag Weavers’ Producer Company Ltd (GWPCL), which supports its members by supplying them the raw materials required for manufacturing clothes, procuring their products and also supplying the products in market.
Hareitha S, senior divisional commercial manager, said the scheme would be extended to 15 railway stations in the Hubballi division. Santosh K Verma, additional DRM (general), GWPCL director Mahesh Indi, and others were present.
