Coimbatore: The city police arrested a 29-year-old man for stealing 85 lakh from Kovai Medical Center and Hospital (KMCH) last week.
The arrested person was identified as S Yuvaraj of Kosavampatti in Namakkal district. He had been working as a cashier in the outpatient section of the hospital for the last six months and had gone missing on the night of February 13 with 85 lakh from the locker.
Hospital vice-president R Narayanan lodged a complaint with the Peelamedu police, who registered a case against Yuvaraj under sections 408 (criminal breach of trust by clerk or servant) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the Indian Penal Code.
Investigation wing inspector Amutha, sub-inspector Sumithra and team arrested Yuvaraj on Friday and recovered 72.40 lakh from him. “Preliminary inquiry revealed that after stealing the cash, Yuvaraj went to Chennai and took a room in a luxury hotel. He also rented a car. He splurged more than 10 lakh on luxury,” a police officer said.
“He had stolen more than 7.5 lakh from a jewellery shop in Coimbatore city where he worked as a cashier. He also stole money while working in textile shops in Coimbatore city and Trichy city,” the officer added.
Yuvaraj was remanded in judicial custody and was lodged in the Tirupur sub-jail.
