COIMBATORE: Chief minister M K Stalin on Monday appreciated 58 police officers who acted swiftly and arrested six ISIS sympathizers who were involved in the October 23 car bomb blast in the city.
Coimbatore city police commissioner V Balakrishnan, deputy commissioners of police N Silambarasan (south range), R Sughasini (headquarters), assistant commissioner of police Veerapandi, inspectors (intelligence section) Sivakumar, Kandasamy, Variety Hall road police inspector Sasikala, Ukkadam police inspector Saravanan, sub-inspectors Vivek, Selvaraj, Renuka Devi and three police officials met the chief minister at the Secretariat in Chennai on Monday morning and received appreciation certificates from him.
Police collected 148 pieces of evidence and explosive materials within 12 hours of the incident and arrested five people on October 24. The sixth person was arrested on the next day. Chief secretary V Iraianbu, Director General of Police (DGP) C Sylendra Babu and senior police officers also participated in the event.
