Dharwad: Hubballi-Dharwad (West) MLA Arvind Bellad, who was accused of not being responsive to the demand for a separate municipality for Dharwad on Friday, said that the deputy commissioner has been asked to prepare a detailed report about the demand for bifurcation of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation and creation of Dharwad Municipal Corporation.
When people agitating under the umbrella of Agitation Committee for Separate Municipal Corporation for Dharwad met him at the HDMC office in Dharwad and urged him to make public his stand on the issue, Bellad said he would go with the people’s wish.
However, he expressed his reservations over the demand by saying that the people of Hubballi and Dharwad have united with the formation of HDMC and bifurcation of the city corporation should not be on the basis of emotions. It should be looked at with administrative and development perspective, the MLA said.
Convener of the committee Manoj Patil said the committee is a non-political forum and all the political parties should work towards getting justice for Dharwad. Venkatesh Machakanur explained the course of agitation thus far.
Earlier the members of various organizations under the aegis of Committee for Separate Municipal Corporation for Dharwad took out a rally in the city and submitted a memorandum to HDMC commissioner.
