Dharwad: The people of Dharwad under the aegis of agitation committee for separate municipal corporation for Dharwad protested in front of the deputy commissioner’s office here on Tuesday.
They submitted a memorandum addressed to the chief minister to deputy commissioner Nitesh Patil. With a population of more than seven lakh and being an educational hub with premier institutions of national importance, Dharwad has not seen any visible developments, the memorandum said.
Even though, it is located just 20 km away from Hubballi, the commercial centre of North Karnataka, Dharwad has always received a raw deal in fund allocation and infrastructure development. Decentralisation makes development easy and hence, HDMC should be bifurcated, and a separate civic body should be formed for Dharwad so that both Hubballi and Dharwad benefit, the memorandum said.
The protest was led by Manoj Patil, Venkatesh Machaknur, Basavaprabhu Hosakeri, Gururaj Hunasimarad, Prakash Udakeri, and others.
