Dharwad: The Dharwad bench of the Karnataka High Court has stayed the transfer of five teachers working at the University of Agricultural Sciences (UAS) here.
The university had transferred Sunil Karikatti, president of the UAS Teachers’ Welfare Association, vice-president RH Patil, secretary Mahantesh Nayak and executive committee members Manjula N and Nagappa Govanakopp out of Dharwad.
All the five lecturers had questioned the university’s order in the high court. The judge who took up the case has stayed the transfers till the disposal of the case.
The teachers, under the umbrella of the Teachers’ Welfare Association, had launched an agitation to press for the fulfilment of their demands. Alleging that the vice-chancellor had failed to address their grievances, the teachers had approached the governorThawarchand Gehlot, also chancellor of the varsity, and aired their grievances.
The counsel for the plaintiff argued that the transfers were an act of vengeance.
