Gurgaon: Three officials from IIT-Delhi visited Chintels Paradiso in Sector 109 on Friday and inspected Tower D, where the living rooms of five flats collapsed vertically from the sixth to the second floors on February 10.
Officials said the IIT team, which will carry out a structural audit of the tower, would soon share the timeline of their work.
Deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav, who accompanied the IIT officials, said, “The team that visited Paradiso today will carry out the audit of Tower D and other structures in the compound. They will then submit a report.” Yadav told TOI he had urged the team to prepare an extensive report.
District town planner RS Batth, who showed them around, said the team spent two hours in the society. “They carried out a preliminary examination of the tower and a few other flats. Before leaving, they said they would soon let us know the timeline of their audit and the terms of reference,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Yadav interacted with residents of Tower D and gave them three options about their new place of stay. “The first option is to shift to other flats in the project, which many of you have already done. There has been apprehension over how long you’ll be allowed to stay in these temporary flats. You can stay there as long as your homes are not declared safe to live in,” Yadav told the anxious residents.
Those staying in vacant flats in the project have complained that they lack basic amenities. Some have also raised concerns about privacy in the absence of curtains.
As the next option, Yadav said the residents could temporarily move to other societies and the developer would bear the cost of shifting as well as the monthly rent. “The third option is a refund. But the amount and the modalities will have to be worked out for that. It will be shared with the residents for their consent. Once the flats owners agree to it, the refund could be processed,” he added.
According to Batth, all families would be rehabilitated soon and the cost would be borne by the developer.
Asked what action was being contemplated against the developer and the engineers, Yadav said two FIRs had already been filed against them and the police had sought all details related to the project. “We are hopeful that the inquiry committee constituted by us will be able to give us a report in the next three to four days,” he added.
On the health of Arun Srivastava, a resident who was pulled out from under the rubble after a 16-hour operation by the NDRF and a team of doctors, Yadav said he was recovering fine.
The developer, Chintels India, said they were working for the rehabilitation of the affected residents. “Our onsite team is working round-the-clock to ensure the smooth rehabilitation of the affected residents. We will compensate the affected residents or accommodate them in alternative arrangements while the necessary repairs or fresh construction are completed,” a spokesperson for Chintels said.
The developer said if some of the residents were not happy with the arrangements and wanted to shift to other societies, the company was willing to pay their rent.
