Gurgaon: A relative of a former sarpanch, whose house in Manesar’s Kasan village was attacked by three men who fired indiscriminately at a family offering prayers on Diwali, succumbed to injuries on Sunday. Praveen Kumar (42) is the third person to have died in the shooting, the other two being the former sarpanch’s sons.
Three others, including an eight-year-old boy, who were hit by a spray of bullets on Thursday are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Sources said the former sarpanch, Gopal, had given the responsibility of security of his house to Praveen since there was a perceived threat on his life from members of another family in the village. Both the families have been involved in a bitter battle since a murder in 2007.
Praveen, according to police, was hit by two bullets in the liver and intestine and was admitted to a private hospital. “Three others, including an eight-year-old, are still undergoing treatment at a hospital. The pet dog that was also injured in the attack is said to be stable,” said Yashwant Yadav, the station house officer of IMT Manesar police station.
In the police complaint, Gopal’s relatives have named 10 persons from the other family with whom they had developed testy ties. Police have formed four teams, but they are yet to make any arrests.
Around 8pm on Thursday, three men had barged into the house of Gopal in Kasan village and rained bullets into his family members performing Lakshmi puja. A family member said the firing continued for 15 minutes.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the attack on Gopal’s house was the fallout of the 2007 murder. Gopal’s sons, Balram and Sohanpal, had been handed the life term in connection with the murder then. They came out on bail a few years ago and the other family was since looking for an opportunity to avenge the 2007 death.
