NEW DELHI: Censuring BJP candidate from Tiloi assembly constituency in UP, Mayamkeshwar Sharan Singh, for his “provocative” remarks in a widely-circulated video clip, the Election Commission on Tuesday banned him for 24 hours, starting 8 am tomorrow, from holding public meetings, rallies, roadshows and interviews or making statements in the media.
Terming Singh’s utterances — that those who want to live in Hindustan will have to chant “radhe-radhe” or they must go to Pakistan – as utterly irresponsible and provocative “that have the undertone and propensity to disturb religious harmony of society”, EC said it strongly condemns and censures him for the same.
An FIR has already been registered in this regard against Singh in the Mohanlalganj police station in Amethi, under Section 298 of Indian Penal Code and Section 125 of the Representation of the People Act.
Singh, in his reply to EC, had accepted making the impugned statements but said it was only in reference to the Ahmedabad blast case and not in respect of any community.
