Hubballi: Congress workers across North Karnataka added their voice to the party’s demand for the resignation of rural development and panchayat raj KS Eshwarappa on Monday.
The clamour for his removal from the cabinet grew louder with protests in various districts. In North Karnataka, prominent members of the party gave speeches and led rallies, condemning the minister, who has been at the centre of a raging controversy following his purorted remark that the ‘bhagva dhwaj’ will one day replace the Indian tricolour at the Red Fort.
Congress workers exhorted people of the state to teach a fitting lesson to divisive leaders like Eshwarappa.
In Hubballi, president of the Hubballi-Dharwad City Congress Committee Altaf Hallur led a rally from Sangolli Rayanna Circle to Mini Vidhana Soudha, with slogans condemning Eshwarappa renting the air.
Sadanand Danganavar, Babajan Mudhol were among the other prominent Congress members who participated in the protest.
In Davanagere, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) spokesman D Basavaraj led the protesters in a rally from Jayadeva Circle to the AC’s office, where they submitted a memorandum, demanding Eshwarappa’s immediate dismissal from the cabinet. Dinesh K Shetty, A Nagaraj, KG Shivakumar and Ayub Pylvan were among the officebearers who participated.
A rally was held in Chitradurga, while in Kalaburagi, scores of Congress workers marched from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Circle to the deputy commissioner’s office under the leadership of Kalaburagi District Congress Committee president Jagadev Guttedar. Former MLC Allamprabhu Patil, vice-president of the Woman’s Congress Latha Ravi Rathod participated in the rally.
