As the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic continues to slow down, automakers are preparing to launch their new models in India. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Skoda and Volkswagen will soon be introducing new vehicles in the Indian market. Here is a list of five upcoming car launches in India this year. Let’s take a look.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Maruti Suzuki is ready to launch the 2022 Baleno facelift on 23rd February in India. The carmaker had commenced bookings for Baleno facelift earlier at a token amount of Rs 11,000. Maruti Baleno will be available in two petrol variants: 1.2-litre Dual VVT and 1.2-litre DualJet. In terms of features, the new Baleno will come equipped with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a segment-first 360-degree camera and Suzuki Connect technology with Alexa voice commands. Other changes will include an updated exterior design and a refreshed interior.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza Facelift
Maruti Suzuki is presently working on the Brezza facelift, and according to the spy images, Maruti might drop the ‘ Vitara’ from the car name this time. The 2022 Brezza facelift is expected to launch in mid-2022 and will get the same 1.5-litre petrol engine, which powers the present model. The engine is likely to come with a five-speed manual and an AMT unit. Speaking of the exterior, the Maruti Brezza facelift is expected to feature a new grille, L-shaped LED daytime running lights and L-shaped tail light clusters. Talking about the interior, the new Maruti Brezza will receive a touchscreen infotainment system and a conventional twin-dial instrument cluster.
Volkswagen Virtus
Based on the MQB AO IN platform, the Virtus sedan will mark its global debut on 8th March. The VW Virtus will serve as a replacement of Volkswagen Vento in the Indian market. There will be two engine options available with the Volkswagen Virtus – a 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine and 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbo petrol engine. Both variants will come mated with a six-speed manual gearbox. The 1.0 L engine will be paired to a six-speed torque converter AT gearbox whereas the 1.5 L will be offered with a DSG unit. Similar to the Taigun, Volkswagen will offer a GT variant in Virtus sedan from the beginning.
Skoda Slavia
Skoda India has confirmed 28th February as the launch date for Slavia. The India-specific Slavia will be built on the same MQB AO IN platform as Virtus and will be introduced under the ‘India 2.0’ project. Skoda Slavia will make use of the 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI engines, producing 115 hp and 150 hp respectively. Gearbox options will also be similar to the Virtus. Some of the exterior updates in Skoda Slavia will be 16-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, chrome finish on grille, L-shaped LED Daytime Running Lamps, sleek headlamps with LED projector setup and split LED tail lamps. Speaking of the Slavia interior, the car gives a premium feel with dual-tone black and beige theme, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, fully digital instrument cluster and more.
Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai is likely to launch the new Hyundai Tucson in March 2022 in the Indian market. The 2.0-litre diesel engine and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine of the new Tucson will come mated with a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic unit. The Tucson will get a new grille with LED DRLs, 19-inch alloy wheels, new headlamps and more. Talking about the new Tucson interior, it will sport a larger touchscreen infotainment screen than the present model. Expectedly, the system will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. One can also expect Level 1 Autonomous driving technology in the car considering it’s available in international markets and is gaining popularity in India now.
