A special doodle has been dedicated by Google on November 8 to Indian cell biologist Dr Kamal Ranadive. It is to mark her 104th birth anniversary. Ranadive is known for her groundbreaking cancer research. She also created a more equitable society through science and education. In 1949, she received a doctorate in cytology, the study of cells. At that time she was working as a researcher in the Indian Cancer Research Center. She had a fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA. In Mumbai she established the country’s first tissue culture laboratory. She worked in rural communities in Maharashtra, training women after retirement in 1989. The Google Doodle has been illustrated by India-based guest artist Ibrahim Rayintakath.
