Hubballi: The Indira Gandhi Glass House in MG Park of Hubballi, which was designed on the lines of Bengaluru Glass House, will soon reopen for visitors.
It has been refurbished at a cost of Rs 3 crore under an initiative by the Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Limited (HDSCL).
The Indira Glass House was established in 1977. The then governor of Karnataka Umashankar Dixit inaugurated it. The place became the most happening spot in the city, hosting concerts, political conventions and other events.
Before it got a spruce-up under the smart city project, the glass house was in bad shape. There were no gates to restrict people from entering it. Recently Ravikumar Surpur, the in-charge secretary for the Dharwad district, inspected the work of the glass house and directed the HDSCL to open it.
Dr Pandurang Patil, a former mayor, said this is for the fourth time the Indira Glass House has seen redevelopment. Basavaraj Dharmanti, the DGM of HDSCL, said the glass house was in a poor condition when “we took it for redevelopment. Now, almost all the work is over.”
