Coimbatore: AIADMK functionaries and members celebrated the 74th birth anniversary of late chief minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday. They paid floral tributes to her portraits, garlanded her statues and distributed food to the poor across the city.
A large number of functionaries and members visited the statue of Jayalalithaa on Avainashi Road and raised slogans praising her. They vowed to energise the party to win the elections in future.
Coimbatore North MLA Amman K Arjunan said the partymen took a vow to clinch victory in all constituencies in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. He termed the DMK’s victory in the urban local body elections as temporary. “We will prove that Coimbatore is AIADMK’s permanent fort,” he told reporters.
Pollachi MLA V Jayaraman paid his respect to Jaya’s portrait at Pollachi Bus Terminal. DMK emerged victorious in the urban local body elections by bribing voters, he said.
