Silchar: The 125th birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, the legendary Bengali poet, musician, and philosopher, was observed on Friday across Barak Valley.
Organisations, including Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan and All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO), organised programmes to mark the day in Silchar, Karimganj and Hailakandi.
Members of AIDSO, including a large number of students, brought out a rally from their office at Ukipatty and reached the statue of Kazi Nazrul Islam at Park Road locality of Silchar where they offered tribute to the ‘rebel poet’. A discussion on the life and work of the poet was also held.
A functionary informed that AIDSO will observe the birth anniversary of Nazrul Islam till May 31 across the valley. Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan also organised a series of programmes during the day on the occasion.
