Kia India is planning to launch its first electric car in India, the EV6. The company will commence bookings for the EV6 from 26th May. Earlier unveiled in March 2021 globally, the Kia EV6 is expected to go on sale in India in June 2022.
Built on the E-GMP EV platform, the EV6 will come to India as a CBU unit. Awarded as the European Car of the Year 2022, we expect the EV6 to follow the same feature list, design language and engine specifications when launched in India.
In terms of interior, the Kia EV6 will receive a dual-screen layout featuring an infotainment system and a digital dial. Other notable features will include a new two-spoke steering wheel, connected car technology, a HUD (Heads-up Display) and more.
Safety suite of the Kia EV will consist of numerous Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. Kia India hasn’t revealed the powertrain options of the upcoming EV6 in India yet, however, we expect it to use a 58 kWh battery available in two configurations – a rear-wheel-drive with a single-motor producing 170 hp power and an all-wheel-drive with dual-motor generating 235 hp power. The other option is a 77.4 kWh battery paired to a single motor, cumulatively producing 229 hp power in rear-wheel-drive guise. In all-wheel-drive, the battery along with twin motors churns out 325 hp power.
The Kia EV6 GT variant is performance focused as it cranks out a massive power of 585 hp and a peak torque of 740 Nm with a dual-motor AWD setup.
Kia India will be offering a choice of powertrains to Indian customers to choose from. Recently, the top-spec GT variant was spotted doing rounds on the Indian roads, so we expect it to be available for sale across the country soon.
