Gurgaon: The city is expected to receive lights showers over the next two days due to a fresh western disturbance, weather officials have said. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the western disturbance is going to impact the region on Friday, as a result of which strong surface winds ranging between 30-40 kmph are likely to prevail with a possibility of light showers at isolated places over the next two days.
“A fresh western disturbance is going to hit the city from Friday night, which would bring light showers at isolated places along with gusty winds. Though there will be no significant change in temperature, the night-time temperature may rise slightly,” said Manmohan Singh, director of IMD, Chandigarh. On Thursday, the minimum temperature dropped slightly from Wednesday’s 13.4 degrees Celsius to 13 degrees — four notches above the normal.
“Another weather system is likely to influence the region February 28 onwards, which may cause light rain and drizzle on March 1 and 2. Frequent western disturbance during this month has resulted in temperature fluctuation and no major rise in daytime temperature has been witnessed so far,” said Singh.
According to IMD’s forecast, there will be partly cloudy conditions with a possibility of light rains and thundershowers towards the night. The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to hover around 13 and 27 degrees, respectively. Meanwhile, the city’s air quality further deteriorated but remained in the ‘poor’ category for the third consecutive day owing to low-wind speed. The AQI reading was at 276. It was 222 on Tuesday and 237 on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Delhi is likely to receive light rain or thundershowers on Friday night and Saturday under the influence of a western disturbance. IMD has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Saturday, with the prediction of light rain and gusty surface winds at the speed of 30-40 kmph.
