HUBBALLI: The puzzle parking project at Mahatma Gandhi Park in Hubballi is ready and awaiting opening since April this year.
The smart parking project, which cost around Rs 5 crore, was planned keeping in mind the bad roads and chaotic parking in Hubballi city.
The project got delayed last year because of the pandemic and the Hubballi-Dharwad Smart City Ltd (HDSCL) got extended time to finish the work.
In March-April 2021, the parking was made ready and testing was done by the authorities to check feasibility, strength and other aspects.
However, it has not yet been inaugurated and cannot be used by the people of the city.
The parking area can take in around 37 cars in five levels.
CW Shakeel Ahemad, the managing director of HDSCL said because there were a few other development projects at MG park about to get over in another couple of weeks, the parking lot inauguration has to wait as it will all be done at once.
RB Basaragi, the deputy commissioner of police, crime and traffic, said that the parking facility will help in easing traffic movement in the city.
“In Hubballi many people visit the market. Nowadays, the traffic movement is getting choked due to development work on roads. If the puzzle parking is thrown open for use, then for sure the public will use it,” he said.
“The facility will not only help in easing traffic movement but also generate revenue for the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation,” he added.
