KOLKATA: Abhishek Banerjee was appointed Trinamool Congress national general secretary a working committee meeting on Kolkata on Friday.
Party supremo Mamata Banerjee, chairing the first working committee meeting since all posts were dissolved on February 12, retained nephew Abhishek in a post he held earlier.
Emerging out of the meeting, senior party leader Partha Chatterjee said, “Yashwant Sinha, Subrata Bakshi and Chandrima Bhattacharya will be the party national vice-presidents; Sukhendu Sekhar Ray will be the national spokesperson.”
Ray, the Rajya Sabha chief whip and Lok Sabha MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar will be the spokespersons for Parliament’s upper and lower houses, respectively.
In addition, Mahua Moitra – a party Lok Sabha MP – will be leading the media interactions in Delhi “nearly on a daily basis.”
Aroop Biwas has been appointed the new treasurer and Firhad Hakim – the Kolkata mayor – will be the working committee coordinator.
“We will also set up a WhatsApp group among the working committee members for better coordination,” Chatterjee said.
He said MP Sushmita Dev, and senior leaders Mukul Sangma and Subal Bhowmik have been tasked to handle the party’s north-east affairs. Asoke Tanwar will coordinate affairs for Haryana and Rajeshpati Tripathi for UP.
Sinha and CM Banerjee’s chief economic advisor Amit Mitra have also been tasked to formulate the party’s economic and foreign affair policies, Chatterjee said.
