Coimbatore: The Saravanampatti police have arrested a 24-year-old Mariamman Kovil Street resident for smashing the windshield of a police vehicle.
The arrested person was identified as M Balasubramaniam, a daily-wage worker. An alcoholic, he used to fight with his parents Mariappan and Velammal, a police officer said. “When he came home drunk on Sunday night, Velammal refused to let him in. The parents later visited the Saravanampatti police station to lodge a complaint against him. Around 11.30pm, Balasubramaniam visited the station. As he was drunk, cops advised him to come back on Monday morning. He got angry and threw a flowerpot at the police SUV, damaging the windshield,” he said.
Police registered a case against Balasubramaniam under the Tamil Nadu Public Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act, 1992, and arrested him on Monday. He was remanded in judicial custody.
