Maruti Suzuki had recently released a teaser for the Baleno facelift, which is due to be launched on 23rd February. The teaser showed that the new Baleno facelift will get a HUD (Heads-Up Display), which will be a segment-first feature. That said, we now have information on a few more new features of the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno that will add to connectivity and safety.
One of the key new technologies in the Baleno facelift will be the inclusion of a 360-degree camera. This system provides the driver with a view of the car from all sides, thereby making it easier to park in tight spots and avoid hitting obstacles at crawling speeds. Presently, this feature is available on some vehicles in higher segments.
The other update many have been expecting is a larger infotainment touchscreen. The new Baleno will now offer a 9-inch touchscreen but that’s not all. The car is also expected to feature Suzuki Connect as a standard offering on higher variants, translating into better and easier connectivity for buyers.
Pushing the game further in the connectivity department will be the integration of Alexa voice commands. This will allow consumers to access many functions using voice commands from the car and remotely as well. The exact features and commands for the Baleno, however, haven’t been disclosed yet.
While Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are already available in the present Baleno, the new version will offer wireless support for both platforms. This will greatly enhance occupant convenience as one will no longer need to carry a charging cable at all times.
The list of new features, however, doesn’t end here and the new Baleno is expected to get a few more features, which could be revealed closer to the launch. More importantly, the known list of features till now suggest major progress in the positioning of the Baleno in the premium hatchback segment. Despite being the sales leader in this segment the Baleno has always been overshadowed by the Hyundai i20 in terms of features. However, with these and more new features the Baleno facelift will be better equipped to directly rival the i20. On the pricing front, the new Maruti Suzuki Baleno facelift will get costlier but we expect it to still undercut the i20 prices, thereby maintaining the high value-for-money proposition of Maruti Suzuki.
