Afghanistan’s diplomats at the country’s embassy in Washington are broke and desperately awaiting asylum in the United States, according to a newspaper report. If they are deported, they will face near certain death at the hands of the Taliban in Afghanistan. In an exclusive interview from an undisclosed location, Afghan envoy to Sri Lanka, Ashraf Haidari, spoke to Padma Rao Sundarji of The Times of India, about the precarious fate of his colleagues in Washington due to the freezing of USD 7 billion of Afghan assets by the United States. Haidari also slammed US President Joe Biden for the “colossal betrayal” of his country’s 40 million citizens now on the brink of starvation, and warned India of anti-India terror from Afghanistan-Pakistan.
