The price of petrol and diesel held steady again on Monday, October 31, 2022, for more than five months now. On May 21, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced an excise duty cut on petrol by Rs 8 per litre and on diesel by Rs 6 per litre. The Maharashtra government announced a Value-Added Tax (VAT) cut on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 per litre and Rs 3 per litre, respectively on July 15. The Meghalaya government increased the VAT on fuel prices, owing to which petrol price in Shillong now stands at Rs 96.83 per litre, while diesel price in Shillong is Rs 84.72 per litre.
Petrol price in Delhi is Rs 96.72 per litre and diesel price in Delhi is Rs 89.62 per litre. In Mumbai, petrol costs Rs 106.31 per litre, while diesel is retailing at Rs 94.27 per litre. One litre of petrol in Kolkata stands at Rs 106.03 per litre and one litre of diesel costs Rs 92.76 per litre. Petrol and diesel in Chennai are priced at Rs 102.63 per litre and Rs 94.24 per litre, respectively.

Fuel retails, such as Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL) revise the fuel prices in accordance with international benchmark prices and foreign exchange rates.
