Coimbatore: The district administration will conduct a pulse polio immunisation drive on Sunday.
As many as 3.37 lakh children under the age of five have been earmarked for the drive this year in Coimbatore, compared to 3.41 lakh last year.
The administration has set up 1,568 booths, including 1,190 in rural areas and 379 in urban areas. Apart from booths in schools, health centres, anganwadis and noon meal centres, the administration also plans to organise camps in bus stands, railway stations, temples and deploy 18 mobile camps.
As many as 6,536 workers, including health workers, anganwadi staff and volunteers would be pressed into service, a press release issued by collector G S Sameeran said. “Pulse polio immunisation administered by the government is safe for children and has even obtained recognition of the World Health Organisation (WHO),” it said.
The administration urged parents to adhere to Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) at the camps.
