Coimbatore: The nursery and play schools in the city are gearing up for reopening from Wednesday.
The preschools were closed in March 2020 when the lockdown was imposed during the first wave. Recently, the state government allowed reopening of nursery and play schools.
As schools had already opened for other students from Class I, schools will extend the same standard operating procedures for kindergarten children as well, teachers said.
K Vidhya, principal of Sri Gopal Naidu Children School, said parents are excited about commencement of classes to nursery children and making calls to the school about admission. Teachers too are excited and are already preparing welcome classes for children on Wednesday morning.
“To start with we are planning to hold half-day classes. We will conduct full-day classes from next week. We expect 90% of attendance on the first day of reopening,” she said.
Parents have started making inquiries with the play schools too.
B Sanjana, a resident of Saravanampatti said her daughter is already four years old. She admitted her to LKG last year, but she did not like online classes. Sanjana too was not happy with the online classes and hence stopped.
“We wanted to send her to school this year. Before we put her in UKG, we plan to send her to go to a play school so that she can adopt to school environment,” she said.
A proprietor of a play school from Ganapathy, who did not wish to be named, said many play schools had been functioning for some time in a guise of tuition. Now, they will open formally and run throughout the day, he said.
