BENGALURU: Amid the hijab row, II PU practical exams are slated to start from Thursday, according to the timetable announced by the department of PU education.
However, these exam dates are flexible and can be decided by the respective deputy directors of pre-university (DDPUs). There is time till March 25 for practical exams to be completed. So, many educational districts aren’t starting practicals on Thursday.
On Thursday, practical exams will begin in Dakshina Kannada, Mysuru and Mandya educational districts. Udupi will have the exams in phases starting Friday. However, there is no clarity on whether the exams will commence in the other districts on Thursday.
“Each educational district can change the dates based on local issues. For instance, in Shivamogga or wherever there are issues, they can adjust the dates if they want. Disruptions have been reported only in three places on Wednesday. In 99% of the places, things have been normal and exams will happen as scheduled,” said Ramachandra R, director of PU education.
Asked if students wearing hijab will be allowed to take the exams, the director said: “I do not want to comment on it. The high court order is clear and it will be followed. ”
The dates for the exams change with districts. For instance, science practicals in Bangalore North district will start on February 21 as the number of students is huge and extra arrangements are being made. Meanwhile, preparations are also on for Bangalore South and the dates will be announced soon.
Practical exams in most colleges in Kolar district will begin only next week. Kolar DDPU Ramachandrappa said individual PU colleges have been given the power to fix their own exam dates.
With just a few weeks to go for the final exams, educationists say the hijab controversy has come at a wrong time.
