NEW DELHI: Of the 18 million motorcycles Bajaj Auto has sold thus far, the Pulsar brand contributed to 66% of it. Managing director Rajiv Bajaj held no bars heaping praises on the brand, saying ‘everything we know, we learnt was through Pulsar’.
Pulsar helped the Indian automaker transition from a potent force in a scooter to a motorcycle marker. The brand-new, range-topping 250-cc motorcycles launched on Thursday mark two decades for the Pulsar brand, which spans from 125-cc to quarter-litre.
Rajiv Bajaj, however, candidly accepted that the Pulsar 250 was a little late to arrive. “Pulsar is the root from which we have all the fruits. It’s not just the most important product but the root of all. Pulsar made the company world class, took us globally. It’s been the greatest teacher,” Bajaj said, adding our focus shifted away slightly and are three years late to bring the all-new Pulsar. The penultimate product in the line-up, RS200, was launched in 2015.
Pulsar 250 series is introduced in fully-faired and naked versions at Rs 1.40 lakh and Rs 1.38 lakh (ex-showroom). The N250 and F250 are based on a brand-new 249.06-cc engine, chassis and platform.
Pulsar series of motorcycles, which display strength in the street-naked category, took the brand claim global markets, according to Bajaj. Pulsar was the reason why KTM agreed to the associate with Bajaj Auto, MD Rajiv Bajaj said proudly, referring to the deal with the Austrian manufacturer in 2007.
