Dharwad: The Raitha Sena Karnataka (RSK) has demanded a CBI probe into the alleged corruption in Karnataka Neeravari Nigam (KNN).
In a letter to chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, RSK state president Veeresh Sobaradmath Swami has has urged the government to order probe by CBI into the alleged scam.
Sobaradamath told TOI on Wednesday that KNN, which has the responsibility of taking up overall development of water projects in the state, had got bills worth Rs 300 crore cleared without carrying out any work since 2015.
He said the government had invited tenders for work worth Rs 2,000 crore in Malaprabha Left Bank Canal and Malaprabha Right Bank Canal and alleged that the contractors, in connivance with KNN officials, had got the bills cleared after executing substandard work.
He further alleged that tender was called for works in Benne Halla Lift Irrigation scheme for Rs 950 crore, and the bills were passed without proper work.
“When we brought the lapse to the notice of top officials in the department and sought information on the works carried out, they did not heed our request and got busy trying to shift KNN head office from Dharwad,” Sobaradmath alleged.
He said the Raitha Sena Karnataka filed a PIL at Karnataka High Court in September 2021 against shifting of KNN head office from Dharwad, and the HC has stayed the move.
Sobaradmath has said that RSK will launch an agitation in Dharwad if the government fails to order a CBI probe. Sobaradmath, who is leading the farmers’ agitation for the implementation of Kalasa-Banduri Nala project aimed at diverting the Mahadayi waters to Malaprabha for drinking water, said the Congress, BJP and JD(S) have no political will to implement the project.
They want the issue to be alive so they can extract political mileage out of it, he rued.
