Babar Azam-led Pakistan defeated Virat Kohli’s Team India by 10 wickets on Sunday (October 24) in their Super 12s opener at the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 in Dubai. Following the emphatic loss, Indian pacer Mohammad Shami has been receiving online hate on social media as a few sections of Indian fans attacked the senior stalwart for the lack of his patriotism and commitment towards the country. The mob who carried out the online attack reflects the Islamophobic hate many fans tend to bring up whenever India loses to arch-rivals Pakistan in a game of cricket. Legendary cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar has come out in support of Shami as he took to Twitter to post his take on the matter. “When we support #TeamIndia, we support every person who represents Team India. @MdShami11 is a committed, world-class bowler. He had an off day like any other sportsperson can have. I stand behind Shami & Team India,” wrote Sachin in his tweet. Virender Sehwag also came in support of Shami.
