Gurgaon: Deputy commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, on Wednesday, convened the monthly meeting of the road safety committee, where he asked the officials to deliberate on ways to manage the increased traffic volume on city roads and also to work towards the decongestion of the Delhi-Jaipur expressway.
Presiding over the meeting, Yadav directed the road safety officers and other department officials from National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to conduct a survey of IFFCO Chowk and to assess its design flaws and come up with a plan to make the intersection pedestrian-friendly.
The committee also discussed the issue of chronic congestion at Shankar Chowk and deliberated on ways to facilitate smooth traffic flow in the area. Yadav also directed the officials to ensure that all the vehicles coming from the Udyog Vihar side and going towards Jaipur, should be directed to the newly constructed U-turn underpass near Ambience Mall.
“The officials were asked to review the design and other issues of the pedestrian underpass located at IFFCO Chowk. The NHAI officials have also been asked to prepare a detailed report on it, keeping in mind the safety of pedestrians. They have also been asked to see how these pedestrian underpasses can be promoted for public use,” said Yadav.
“Also, the traffic congestion at Shankar Chowk needs to be eased out, by maximizing the use of the newly constructed U-turn underpass near Ambience Mall. All the traffic coming from the Udyog Vihar side and going towards Jaipur, should be directed to this underpass,” he added.
In the meeting, Yadav also highlighted the inaccessibility of the existing foot overbridges and spoke about the increase in number of pedestrians at the Khandsa cut. He asked the NHAI officials to explore the possibility of constructing another FOB between the two existing ones to make crossing of the highway safer for pedestrians. He also instructed for the formation of a three-member committee to review traffic flow at Hero Honda Chowk, and the launch of special drives to curb the menace of wrong-side driving.
