HUBBALLI: The atate’s first Multi-Skill Development Centre has come up at the Government Tool Room and Training Centre (GTTC), Gokul, Hubballi.
The state government and the department of skill development entrepreneurship and livelihood chose the GTTC here for the skill centre. Although there are 28 GTTC centres in the state, the one in Hubballi made the effort to train students in skills in specific domains. Over 8,000 students have been trained here.
The old building of the GTTC centre has been demolished and a new one, called the Multi-Skill Development Centre, has come up.
The state government has provided funds to set up this centre for Rs 8 crore and more than Rs 40 crore for machines.
The highly skilled, multi-talented students from North Karnataka will meet job demands in Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai and Nashik.
The construction of the building started in 2017 and was finished this year. Three multi-storey buildings have come up with more than 25 laboratories.
An administration block and a staff room too have been built. The centre will be opened by chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and minister for skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihood CN Ashwath Narayan.
The GTTC centre was established in 1998. Initially, it was started as eight industrial sheds provided by the New Government Electrical Factory (NGEF). Later, the GTTC purchased the land and started training students.
In 2012, the GTTC shifted all its diploma courses to a larger premises in the Rayapur industrial area.
GTTC Hubballi coordinator Maruthi Banjantri said that there are 30 courses taught at the centre.
Some of these are convention operator -turning/milling/grinder, production engineer (CAD/CAM), designer mechanical (CAD/CAE), quality inspector (CMM), 3D Printing, draughtsman (Civil/Mechanical) electrician and vehicle assembly fitter. “With our effort at the GTTC, the state transformed it into a multi-skill development centre. It is the first centre in the state,” he said.
Internet Of Things (IOT) domain trainer Akshata Miskin said: “We have trained 8,000 students.There are 950 students under training now. We have advanced machines in 27 labs. After training, most of the students got jobs in various industries. This centre will be a job provider centre.”
