Guwahati: A septuagenarian rape accused was injured in police firing while attempting to escape custody in Assam’s Nagaon district, while another person accused in a firing incident was injured for making a similar attempt in Dhubri district on Wednesday night.
The septuagenarian, who is accused of raping a minor girl in Nagaon’s Batadrava area on Tuesday, was arrested on Wednesday.
According to police, the person had complained of chest pain for which he was being taken to hospital for medical assistance. “Police stopped the vehicle at Raidongia village on his request as he had wanted to relieve himself. But he fled the spot by pushing the police personnel immediately after getting down from the vehicle. The police team warned him to stop but he did not. Finally, police had to use force to prevent him from escaping and fired one round below the knee,” said a police officer.
In the second incident, Baharul Islam, who is accused in a firing incident, was injured in police firing while trying to flee custody on Wednesday night in Dhubri.
