VISAKHAPATNAM: As part of celebration of ‘iconic week’ under Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Chief Labor Commissioner (Central), Hyderabad region organised a programme on ‘awareness generation and sensitisation of workers about their rights and for employers regarding compliance and responsibilities under various labour laws’, at IIM-Visakhapatnam permanent campus site in Gambheeram on Friday.

Regional Labor Commissioner (c), Visakhapatnam SK Mohanty coordinated the programme and delivered an introductory address highlighting the beneficial provisions under various labour laws.

The deputy CLC (C) Hyderabad, D Srinivasulu, highlighted the rights of the workers and responsibilities of the employers.
PN Singh and Abesh Mishra, regional provident fund commissioner and assistant provident commissioner, respectively emphasised the importance of social security and the provisions of provident fund.

Joint Commissioner of Labor, Andhra Pradesh government, M Rama Rao sensitized the workers about various welfare schemes available for them.

CGM (P&A), RINL Visakhapatnam, K Srinivasa Rao, spoke about the role of employers in protecting the rights of workers.

GM (HR), HPCL Visakh Refinery, K Nagesh, emphasised on the issues and rights of interstate workers under statutory and non-statutory provisions.

GM, Engineering, NBCC (project management consultant), Arun Kumar, detailed the welfare measures for workers at the workplace.

IIM-V Director Prof. M Chandrasekhar highlighted the welfare and well-being measures being ensured at the permanent campus construction site of the Institute, the principal employer.

Labor enforcement officers L Muralikrishna, Sunil Kumar Keerti, and head (projects) IIM Visakhapatnam R Sayikrishna Raju attended the gathering. About 300 workers participated in the programme.

Additional general manager, Shapoorji Pallonji Constructions Private Limited, the construction contractor engaged by NBCC on behalf of IIM Visakhapatnam, Arvind Gururaj, thanked the delegates for highlighting the issues related to the workers and the workers, for their active participation and making the program a grand success.
